MISSION: MINDSHIFT - The First Step to Mental Re-Programming

You've been programmed to think a certain way your entire life. And society, school systems, parents and friends have reinforced this way of thinking. You were told to take the safest path through life, the one that offers the least resistance, and the one that creates a comfort zone that keeps you from taking chances. To win at the game of life, you must stay the course and never go against the grain.

But, there's a major problem plaguing this world today: The game has changed, but the players have not.

I believe it's unintentional ignorance that makes a person look at what's going on in the world today and feel they don't need to change with the times. Many people hold on to everything they've got and hope that things will one day return to the level of comfort they've grown accustomed to.

One thing you and I both have in common is this: We cannot see into the future. So, what if things never return to what they once were? I can't say they will, nor can I say they won't. Neither can you. The only thing we can do is prepare ourselves based on the trends of current times.

Embracing change starts with mental re-programming, which naturally requires an incredible shift in mindset. Since you've been programmed to think 'A,' reconditioning yourself to think 'B' may seem irrational, impossible, and downright scary.

But you have to evalute your current situation, whatever it may be, and ask yourself: "My pre-programmed way of thinking has gotten me where I am today. Am I willing to live with that or do I want something better for myself and my family?"

If the answer to that question is yes, then mental re-programming must begin. Your mind must begin to think in ways of "OK, I've decided I want more. What can I do to get it?"

I mentioned switching from school of thought 'A' to school of thought 'B' may seems scary, and here's why: We live in a society that determines its actions by the opinions of others!

Have you ever seen something you wanted to take a risk on, were right on the verge of taking the plunge, but someone close to you came along and criticized you to the point that you changed your mind?

It's happened to us all. We base our final decisions on how we feel others will judge us. This could have led to a missed opportunity on a stock purchase, a chance to make a smart investment, or the joy of starting your own personal business. People make opinions based not on the facts of why the risk is worth taking, but rather on their own pre-programming.

If they would never do something "so outlandish" and "against the grain," why should you? And they'll make sure they tell you about it too. Over and over again.

You hold the key to your mental re-programming, and the process begins when you stop listening to uninformed, opinionated outsiders who lack the facts to tell you how to act. Regardless of the criticism you may receive, those who pass judgment are not putting cash in your bank account or food on your table.

And if they're broke, both mentally and financially, why in the world would you ever take advice from them?! They need to worry about helping themselves before they try to help you.

To conclude, going from one school of thought to another requires effort and discipline, but it doesn't need to be difficult. It's certainly not impossible. It depends on how strongly you believe in your self-worth.

Do you feel you've reached your maximum potential or are you leaving opportunities to better yourself and your current situation on the table?

Be 100% honest with yourself as you answer that question, and if you, not everyone around you, but you, feel there's more out there to gain...well then, you're right.

"In a world without limits, there's always more to gain."

More on this subject next week. Until then...

Why Income Claims Make Your Opportunity Less Attractive

The Leadership Blitz

October 29, 2009

Many network marketing or MLM companies are from the school of thought that dollar signs will attract the masses. If someone is given the opportunity to make five-figures per month, why wouldn't they jump at the opportunity, right? Well, reality paints an entirely different picture.

It's no secret that everyone wants to make more money. No matter what level of income you're used to receiving, chances are you feel under compensated. The problem is, most people don't know WHY they want more money, what they'd do with more money, or realize they may not even deserve more money.

When you market your opportunity by putting a dollar amount in someone's face, you run the risk of attracting prospeects with a "lottery mentality." This means they'll sign up with you, and if they don't make the dollar amount you specified in their first month, they'll become angry. And not angry at themselves...angry at you! They will feel entitled to all this extra income without exerting the effort necessary, and they'll most likely refer back to your original claim of how much they'd make.

If you want your prospects to see you as leader, the cornerstone of your marketing approach should be honesty. If you are in a position where you're making five or six figures a month, that's great! Indeed, there are people in network marketing who are doing just that. But...it doesn't mean EVERYONE is going to do that. By stating an income claim, you're filling your prospect's mind with false hope. You're better off informing your prospect up front that their success hinges on the effort they pour into their business.

Take yourself back in time to when you first started looking for a network marketing opportunity. When you came across the very first advertisement that stated someone made boatloads of money with no effort, what was your initial reaction? Chances are, it was "YEAH RIGHT!"

Actually, the person who placed that advertisement may have been telling you the truth. They may have indeed made $25k in a 30-day period. But what's more important here is what they're NOT telling you. It most likely took them months, even years of struggle, effort, training, education, blood, sweat, tears, and frustration to reach that 30-day period. Their success did not come overnight, and the smartest of people will see through that sort of advertisement for the underlying truth.

The foundation of your marketing should be based on two things: Truth and Value. If you've reached a lucrative income goal in your opportunity, you should be very proud of your accomplishments. But using the dollar amount to attract new business partners can lead to signing up unqualified leads...ones that are expecting to get rich overnight with no effort. Instead, offer your prospects value. Offer them leadership. Offer them a helping hand in getting their business off the ground.

You're looking to attract the brightest and the best to your opportunity. And the brightest and the best are over the hype, over the get-rich-quick claims, and over seeing a dollar amount flashed in their face. The brightest and the best want to enhance their current lifestyle and are willing to put forth the effort needed to make that happen!

In conclusion, income claims can cause more headaches than they're worth. It's important to realize that most people are not attracted to money. They may say they are, but at the end of the day, money is just ink on paper.

What people truly care about is the lifestyle money can provide. People want to have more time to spend with their families, more time to travel, and more time to do the things they enjoy. You can position yourself as a more effective marketer if you pull at people's heart strings by talking about the things they enjoy, not shining the spotlight on a dollar figure that may be months, even years, out of reach.

The Louder the Bark: What It Takes to Run with the Big Dogs

Network Marketing. Multi-Level Marketing (MLM). Home-Based Business industry. Top-Tier Direct Sales.

Call it what you like, it can be an intimidating world to enter. Especially if it's your first crack at running your own business and you're having trouble getting started.

Right off the bat, things get turned upside down by statistics, flashy taglines, income claims, and an overwhelming amount of information, both negative and positive. Most people tend to focus whole-heartedly on the positives, while ignoring the negatives and developing an opinion that "no bad can ever happen to me...I was promised nothing but success!

Sadly, the network marketing industry can make you feel like the new kid at school sometimes. It will welcome you with open arms, but quickly prey on you if you're not prepared. It can knock you down and steal your lunch money. It will shove you into a locker. It will make you wonder how you can recover.

But...just like everything in life, it's how you react and overcome this adversity that defines whether you'll one day write your own success story, or join the 97% of people who have failed at MLM. The "big dogs" in this industry were once in the same position you were. But they overcame every obstacle they faced in order to get where they are today.

There was a reason you joined your network marketing opportunity: you saw value. But regardless of how much value you saw, the ingredient that's most likely missing is the mindset you're applying to your efforts. Are you completely eliminating failure from your success equation or are you "trying things out, and if it doesn't work, you still have a job to fall back on?"

Trying things out in half-assed fashion doesn't work. Period. Just like dipping a toe in the water doesn't cool you off on a hot day. You have to dive in 100% with everything you've got!

Do you want to run with the big dogs in network marketing? Here's a few pointers that can help you get started:

1) Look Fear Dead in the Eye, then Beat It Into Submission - Some of the boldest moves you can make are out of fear. But...do you fear failure? If you do, SNAP OUT OF IT! Failure gives you the knowledge to know what to do better the next time. Never, under any circumstance, let fear dictate what you do, or worse...what you DON'T do. Everything you do, whether it works or fails, is for the betterment of the greater good.

2) You Have 86,400 Seconds in Your Day...Use Each of Them Wisely - Robert Kiyosaki once said "The difference between the rich and the poor is how they spend their time." Regardless of whether you joined your business two years or two minutes ago, you have the same amount of time available to you as the biggest big dog in the industry. Develop habits that allow you to maximize the time that's available to you.

3) Don't Fear the Big Dogs...LEARN FROM THEM! - To get what you want, you must seek the advice of those who have already obtained it. If you're looking to become a leader in the network marketing industry, you need to network with leaders. You need to find out who they are, why they're here, and what they've done to get to the top. Don't fear the top dogs and what they say. Embrace them. Absorb their advice. Top leaders realize their success is fueled by helping others reach their goals, therefore are more than willing to help you get the information you seek.

4) The One Thing All Leaders Do: TAKE MASSIVE ACTION! - All of this is nothing more than a moot point if you don't take the action necessary to reach your goals. The big dogs in this industry take action every minute, every hour, every day of their life. The greatest results come from effort, not from wishing. There is no magic spell that can be cast to transform your dreams and goals into reality. Your success and all you achieve lays solely in your hands.

The big dogs are big dogs for a reason. The lesson to take from this is they stand for everything you can accomplish. The ability to make the most of yourself and get to levels you never thought possible are right at your fingertips...

It's up to you to decide whether you're going to run with the big dogs, or get left behind the pack.

Are You Holding Yourself Accountable?

Accountability is one of the most powerful tools you can possess, but is rendered ineffective if you don't use it the proper way. It is imperative to set goals for yourself because you need something to work towards, but following through on the completion of those goals is the tricky part. You have to believe in your goals and mission so strongly that you stop at nothing to ensure they're reached.

To effectively train your mind to hold yourself accountable, it's best to put things in the perspective of a "regular" job. In the course of a day, you are expected to complete certain tasks. If those tasks are not completed, or are completed below the standards set forth by the powers that be, you're going to have some explaining to do. Most likely, you'll be expected to work overtime and/or redo the entire project.

The bottom line is, you are held accountable for the completion of certain jobs and tasks because your paycheck and employment depend upon it.

In terms of your own business, things change...but stay the same at the same time. You are no longer working to appease a boss or meet an assigned quota. The goals you are looking to accomplish are far more personal and provide you the opportunity to build a lifestyle by design. But if you don't hold yourself accountable for doing the things that lead to results, your business will never allow you to design that lifestyle, thus leaving you with more of what you already have.

The biggest transition a new business owner must make is in mentality. You have been pre-programmed to be an "employee," meaning you do the work that is expected of you so you can take home a paycheck while everyone above you gets wealthy. In order to make the transition from employee to "entrepreneur," meaning you'll apply the same sort of work ethic to achieve results that make you wealthy, you must adopt the mentality that allows you to do so.

The human brain is programmed to react to consequence. In order to work hard for something, often times there needs to be a consequence tied to it. Again, think about a "regular" job. If you don't perform up to standards or carry out the duties of your job effectively, you'll lose that job. If you don't pay your electric bill, the power goes out in your home.

In terms of your own enterprise, what's something that you want so badly, you'd rather die than live without it? Is it the freedom to travel? The chance to spend more time with your family? It's all relative to what you're truly passionate about, and it requires a trip deep inside yourself to determine what will make you follow through on your tasks by any means necessary.

The effort you pour into your business is directly related to the goals you are trying to accomplish and how strongly you believe in them. If you don't truly believe in your goals, how can you expect to hold yourself accountable for their accomplishment? What you do has to mean something and get you one step closer to what you truly want out of life.

To help build your personal accountability, try the following exercise:

Think of something you want so badly and feel so passionate about, your life would change forever if you had it. Then, close your eyes and envision yourself living in that lifestyle, with whatever it is you wanted, for one week. Literally run through your head how great things would be. Feel how much happier you are. Imagine all the possibilities you now have available.

Then, pretend someone comes along and takes it all away in an instant!

Open your eyes.

You feel horrible, right? Of course you do!

Now, take that one thing you can't live without, and start taking massive action in order to make what you just envisioned a reality! Don't expect it to come overnight, but look at every task you complete as a step in the right direction.

Developing strong personal belief and wanting something badly enough will build a great foundation to your long-term success. If you implement habits that start showing results, start holding yourself accountable for carrying out those habits on a daily basis. Getting what you envision will ultimately rest on your shoulders, but taking accountability for what you truly want will get you there much, much faster.

Make it happen!

What Do Leaders Tweet About?

The Leadership Blitz
October 27th, 2009

Twitter has quickly risen to the top of the ranks as one of the most popular social networks on the web. Not only has it established itself as an excellent place for people to connect, it's also become many user's source for news and information.

The simple premise of a 140 character or less message makes it very simple to get a quick, succinct message across and introduce followers to quotes, content, and relevant and useful information that can increase knowledge.

Like all social networks, there's a right way and a wrong way to use the service. The wrong way is to spam links to websites that only lead to personal gain for the "tweeter." Behavior like this has led to the suspension of countless accounts and gotten many blacklisted in the Twitterverse.

Many leaders have turned to Twitter to gain and share insight on a variety of topics, including life, business, leadership, sales, marketing, and more. If you're connecting with the right people, you can achieve answers to any questions, in any niche, at any time of the day.

Have you taken the time to notice what the leaders are truly tweeting about? Yes, there are still Twitter users out there who do not intend to change their ways and provide little to no value to the reader. However, if you sift through the garbage, you're likely to find treasures that can benefit you in a great way.

Your objective is to establish yourself as a leader in your niche. To accomplish this task, it's important to mimic the behavior of leaders who have laid the groundwork before you. If you've chosen to use Twitter as a part of your efforts, below if what the leaders on Twitter are tweeting about:

1) VALUE! - I list this at Number One and stress it as the most important because leaders do not tweet spam. Leaders realize their success is not 100% about them. As a leader, your goal is to affect the lives of as many people as possible on a daily basis. By tweeting spam, you're wasting your audience's time and, over time, damaging your reputation. Your tweets should offer something of value to the reader. For example, access to valuable information, a great quote, or a question that sparks conversation are great tweets. Tweet after tweet with links to your opportunity will be overlooked by the majority of the Twitterverse.

2) LIFESTYLE - Many people belong to the school of thought that teaches money is everything, but the long and short of it is this: People don't care about money. They care about the lifestyle money offers. Leaders don't send tweets that say "I earned $35,092.84 in one month, and so can you," then include a link to their opportunity. I believe I speak for the majority when I say I don't care what you earned last month. Someone is attractive to me because they've created a lifestyle that allows them to spend time with their families, travel, or do the things they love. Tweet about that. Don't tweet about income claims.

3) RESOURCES - I mentioned value earlier, and there's nothing more valuable than a resource you've come across that can help people in numerous ways. A free report, an e-book, a great article or video...none of this is off limits, as long as the information is relevant and can affect someone, even if it's in the smallest of ways. If it affected you, chances are it will affect your audience as well.

4) INTRIGUING QUESTIONS - Everyone loves a good conversation, and the best conversations are usually started by a great question that makes people think. Be the person who starts the conversation! Think of a question you may not have all the answers to or something you believe in strongly. Send a tweet to your audience with an intriguing question, make them put on their thinking caps, and watch the insight explode!

5) INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES - Each of us is inspired in different ways, and time-honored quotes from past leaders can affect your audience profoundly. If you come across a quote that inspires you or gets you thinking, again, chances are it will do the same thing for your audience. Tweet it!

Having trouble finding quotes to tweet? Here's a great site to visit: Click Here

Here's a simple rule of thumb: People aren't going to Twitter looking for the next big business opportunity. They're going there for information, connectivity, and insight on how they can improve their situations. Therefore, use Twitter to provide value, and you'll become a more attractive leader!

Does Your "Job" Define Who You Are?

The Leadership Blitz
October 28th, 2009

The last job I had in the "9 to 5" world was one gigantic ball of misery. I was completely unhappy, I felt my talents were being underused, my manager was nothing short of incompetent with no clue how to manage a team of individuals, and I felt as if I was promoting an inferior product/service that would provide no benefit to the consumer...who, I might add, was reached in complete cold-call fashion and, 75% of the time, never requested information in the first place.

When it finally came time for my professional relationship to end with this company, the range of emotions running through my head were mind-blowing. Have you ever been part of a relationship that you wanted to end so badly, you could taste it...but feared the reaction of the other person? But then, out of the blue one day, they decide to tell you they want to end it?

This is exactly what happened. When they made the final decision to downsize my position, millions of thoughts ran through my head. The one thing I remember most clearly was looking out the window and seeing that it was raining. I literally envisioned myself walking out the front door and raising my arms to the sky and laughing with joy ala Andy Dufresne in "The Shawshank Redemption" when he escaped from jail after being wrongfully imprisoned for 19 years.

As a professional, I chuckled to myself as I walked out of the building for the last time. I never did re-enact the scene from my favorite movie that played through my head. Instead, I quietly closed that chapter of my life and immediately began writing a new one.

The point is, while I worked at that place, I never once let that "job" define who I was. So often, we get caught up in our careers that we forget about the other ingredients that make up our lives. This is in large part due to the fact that the average person spends more time at their job than they do with their family or doing the things they enjoy most.

When you meet someone new, the normal icebreaker is, "So, what do you do?" When I truthfully shared where I worked when posed with this question, just about everyone had never heard of it. Embarrassed, I started to make things up that related to what I did, but weren't actually my position. Over time, I found myself dancing around the question completely and quickly changing the subject.

Then I realized I didn't have to talk about the job I hated to explain who I am and what I do. I simply shifted the attention to the positive things in my life. That's what defines who I am.

In order to speak proudly about what you do, you have to be passionate about it. But I've talked to so many people who've completely bought-in to the traditional style of life by working a job they hate because A) that's how they've been programmed their entire life, B) they don't know any other way, and C) they're too accustomed to their comfort zones to make any sort of change. They don't speak proudly about it. They simply complain about it and wish things would change effortlessly.

There are alternatives out there for those who seek it, but in order to see them clearly, you have to break free from your comfort zone and stop letting the things you hate the most define who you are.

Your job doesn't define you. YOU define you. You are fortunate enough to live in a world that allows you to make changes if you're not comfortable with what you already have. But a change in consequence requires a change in mentality.

Are you sick of your job? The answer may be yes, the answer may be no. But whatever your answer is, always remember the true definition of who you are is not limited to what you do for 40, 50, or 60 hours a week. The actions you take that add value to your life, your family's life, and everyone you come in contact with not only define you as a person...

They define you as a leader.

NEVER Accept the Unacceptable

The Leadership Blitz
October 22nd, 2009

Everyone has a destiny in life. All of us were put on this earth to do something extraordinary.

The question is...are you willing to accept your mission?

A major disconnect people have with their destiny is the fact that they wait for it to happen without doing what it takes to make it happen. They set a certain standard in their life and stay within the means that allow them to reach that standard. Nothing more...sometimes less.

They're not willing to go above and beyond to reach their peak. They sell themselves short. They live life accepting results below their standards because those results offer little to no resistance.

In other words, they accept the unacceptable.

The picture above is Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby hoisting the Stanley Cup after he and his team overcame injury, struggle, and adversity to win hockey's ultimate prize. What most people forget (except for us die-hard Pens fans) is that the Penguins were nearly out of opportunities to even make the playoffs last season.

As of February 14th, 2009, the Pens were on the outside looking in, needing alot to happen in order for them to compete in the playoffs. Mainly, a winning streak most thought was unattainable. A lesser team who accepted defeat would've faded into the night. But the Penguins persevered and deemed it unacceptable to be anything other than extraordinary.

They came together as a team, they set a goal, they decided failure was an unacceptable option, and they let nothing stand in the way of the accomplishment of their mission.

The media wrote them off, saying there was no way the Penguins could climb out of the hole they had dug themselves into. Other teams considered them stepping stones on their way to the playoffs.

Crosby and the Pens ignored it all.

The result? The chance to skate with Lord Stanley's Cup and the privilege of calling themselves "champions."

In your life and your business, are you willing to accept defeat? Have you adopted failure as an acceptable circumstance? Only a crazy person would say yes, but often times the true meaning of why you do what you do gets lost in failed marketing attempts, a prospect who disappears, a laundry list of tasks that seem mundane and worthless, or anything else that creates a new obstacle to overcome.

It's important to keep your eye on the ball and always remember why you do what you do. Even the most mundane of tasks is simply a stepping stone towards the ultimate prize. The most difficult of obstacles will only make you a better person for having overcome them.

With everything you do, remember this: the unacceptable is not reality until you allow it to be so. There's no written rule that says you need to accept any result you do not deem appropriate. Utilize every strength you have to create a reality jam-packed with acceptable circumstances.

Overcome the adversity, ignore the naysayers, never accept the unacceptable, and give yourself the opportunity to earn your own personal "Stanley Cup."

Uncovering the Truth Behind the Definition of Insanity

How happy are you with your current situation? Have you met every goal you've set for yourself? Are there things you wish you could've done differently?

Has everything in your life gone exactly as you've planned?

Or have you reached a point where you want to pull your hair out and scream over the sheer frustration of life's events?

Well, here's the bad news: You can't change what's already happened.

But, here's the good news: You CAN change what happens going forward.

Insanity has been defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Funny how quickly we forget that as we lead our lives.

How many times have you waited for something to change in your life, but never took any action that could dictate that change? It happens all the time.

Here's an example: You want a raise at work. You feel you've proven that you're worth more than what you're being compensated, and you expect more in return for your efforts. So you say to yourself, "I'm not doing a lick more work than I already do until I'm given a raise." Then, you sit and wait for it to come to you as if you're entitled and the your mind can be read.

And when it doesn't happen, you complain about it to your friends and co-workers over a couple beers at happy hour on Friday evening.

That's insanity. Your level of compensation is set for your current output. Why would it increase if your output doesn't? Why not put forth the extra effort that gets you noticed?

This is a small example, but this sort of attitude stems from the way you were programmed to think. The majority of people are taught to live within their comfort zones, don't take too many risks, don't make bold moves, and live a life of conventional thought. In actuality, everyone wants more...they're just afraid to go against the grain to get it!

Therefore, it's insane to believe that anything will change in your life if you aren't willing to change yourself first. Living a life within a shell of a comfort zone fueled by convential thought will get you exactly what you have right now.

If you're content with where you are, so be it. But don't ask for, or expect, anything to improve if you keep doing the things you've already done over and over again.

You are your own person, and you have the freedom to rely on yourself. If you've earned a "status quo" lifestyle up to this point and you want to rise above that, you have the ability to take action and rely on your God-given qualities to make changes!

But no one can do it for you. Before anything can change in your life, you have to redefine "conventional thought" for yourself to the point where it stands for your everything YOU believe in, not the definition society has pre-programmed you to believe is correct.

Going forward, when you want something to change in your life, don't pull your hair out and wish for it to happen. Look within yourself and do what is necessary to make it happen. Be your own person and take control of your destiny!

Make the Most of Your Day, Every Day

The Leadership Blitz
October 21st, 2009

You've probably heard the saying, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift. That's why it's called 'the present.'" It's meaning reminds us to appreciate what is available and to live for the moment.

You can't go backwards and change what happened yesterday. You can't jump into the future and see what's going to happen tomorrow. But you can get the most out of each and every day by respecting each moment you have and using it to your advantage.

Here are a few pointers to help you make the most of your day:

1. Have a Plan of Attack - Approaching your day without knowing what you want, or need, to accomplish will lead to an unorganized, discombobulated mess. Instead of focusing on one task at a time, your mind wanders to the other 10, 11, or 12 things you want to get done, thus lessening the results of the task at hand. Prepare yourself by creating a simple task list that is prioritized by importance, and develop the habit of not deviating from it! Accomplish your most difficult tasks early while your mind is still fresh, thus opening up the rest of your day for open-minded thinking and enhanced creativity.

2. Don't Overload Yourself - Expecting too much of yourself causes nothing but stress, which leads to a lack of production. Think about a time your personal work load looked like it would take three people to accomplish in one day. Mentally, you spend more time thinking about what's coming next than getting the task at hand 100% right. Keep your daily activities in line with the amount of time you have to dedicate to them. Save yourself the stress of trying to cram everything into one day by laying out a weekly plan where a less important task can be accomplished on a less busy day.

3. Be Open-Minded - New ideas are going to come to you daily, and only a close-minded person dismisses an idea without looking at it from all angles to see what can come from it. Approaching your day with an open mind enables you to think more clearly, develop new ideas, and implement those ideas without fear of ridicule and failure. If the idea fails, BIG DEAL! Now you know it doesn't work and you can try something new.

4. Turn Negatives into Positives - Buried in every negative situation is at least one positive. It's up to you to dig deep and find it. True leaders can take any negative and put a positive spin on it by asking the following question: "What can I learn from this?" Leaders always look for ways to increase their knowledge, and education is the lifeblood of growth and development. Don't get angry or ignore negatives. Instead, evaluate them for the positives they can offer.

5. Always Do Something For Someone Else and Expect Nothing in Return - So much of the time, we get caught up in the "what's in it for me" mentality. "If I do this for person A, what's person A going to do for me in return?" Instead of approaching your day this way, just DO something without the thought of payback. Help a co-worker or business partner accomplish a difficult task. Reach something on a high shelf for a shorter person at the grocery store. Trust me, it feels good to do a good deed, and the return will come in spades when you're least expecting it.

6. Take Massive Action - Tips 1-5 are rendered completely useless unless you're willing to take action and make things happen. The accomplishment of any goal, task, or activity starts with developing an attitude of action and stopping at nothing to see its completion.

Don't waste another second. Use today to take some massive action and make the most out of each and every minute!

The Clock's Ticking: Five Easy-to-Apply Time-Management Tips

The Leadership Blitz
October 15th, 2009

Every day, we are given 24 hours. Each of those hours gives us 60 minutes.

Each minute is worth 60 seconds, which means we are given a gift of 86,400 seconds to use to our advantage.

The problem is, we often allow ourselves to get off-track and lose focus we put too much pressure on ourselves to accomplish a million things in a small window of time.

It all boils down to how well we manage our seconds. Within that task, however, is a lesson I learned that holds a lot of truth: Time-management is a myth.

According to Susan Ward, time never changes. No matter how organized you are, there will always be 24 hours in your day. It comes down to how you manage yourself.

On that thought, here are some simple tips you can utilize to better manage yourself and get the most out of the time:

1) Determine Where You are Wasting Time - Do you start your day by checking email? If so, you put yourself at the mercy of others because your schedule is now dictated by the number of messages that require replies. Email, personal phone calls, and surfing the Internet are just a few culprits of time that can be easily avoided. Save your personal business for the times you allow yourself a break, and hold off email correspondance until the end of the day. If you *MUST* check email as your first activity, limit yourself to 15-20 minutes and only reply to the messages that require immediate response.

2) Create Daily Goals - Having your day laid out when you wake up in the morning makes it much easier to focus on what you need to accomplish. Instead of sitting down at your desk and saying, "OK, what do I need to do today," you can look at the blueprint you've already constructed and immediately get to work. I recommend constructing your next day's blueprint at the end of your current work day, while your mind is still focused on the tasks you need to tackle tomorrow. Waiting may cause you to forget a pressing issue.

3) Do Not Quit Until Your Goals are Accomplished For the Day - Walking away from unfinished goals ultimately means you are not holding yourself accountable for your results. In the "9 to 5" world, unfinished tasks lead to overtime. In regards to your own business, you should approach things in a similar fashion. When you structure your day, do not overload yourself to the point that you make reaching your goals stressful and impossible. If you are working a home-business full-time, give yourself 5-6 goals to reach. If you're working it part-time, give yourself 2-3 goals. Do not go to bed until your goals are reached. This is the ultimate test in personal accountability.

4) Prioritize Your Goals to Ensure They Are Reached - It's natural to push difficult tasks to the end of your day and spend your time doing the activities you enjoy first. However, this can be detrimental to your results. Your mind is usually freshest at the beginning of the day, and since the difficult tasks are usually pushed to the end because they require the most effort, approaching these tasks first, and with a focused mind, will ensure they're completed with more stellar results. Plus, conquering the difficult work early means your afternoon will be far less stressful.

5) Create a Routine and Stick to it Habitually - Time management and holding yourself accountable comes down to routine. Creating a schedule for your daily activities and sticking to that schedule will help you develop better habits. It's much easier to hold yourself accountable when your day is structured. Once you get used to your new routine, positive output and maximum results will be your payoff.

In the "9 to 5" world, the watchful eye of authority prevents you from spending your time on non-productive activities. In the home-based business world, you are the watchful eye of authority, and it's up to you keep yourself in check to ensure the goals you have set for yourself become reality.

The Heart of a Tiger

The Leadership Blitz

Monday, Oct. 12th, 2009

Today's lesson focuses on one of the most important aspects that all leaders possess: Courage.

A mouse went to a magician after a run-in with a cat. He feared the cat and asked the magician to turn him into what he feared...a cat.

The magician granted the mouse's wish and turned him into a cat. At first, the mouse-turned-cat was content. Then, he had a run-in with a dog.

The cat went back to the magician and asked him to turn him into a dog. The magician granted his wish a second time.

The mouse-turned-cat-turned-dog was again content...until he had a run-in with a tiger. He went back to the magician and asked him to turn him into a tiger. Again, the magician granted his wish.

Content once again, the mouse-turned-cat-turned-dog-turned-tiger went out into the world. This time, he had a run-in with an elephant.

Again, he went back to the magician and asked him to turn him into his new fear...the elephant.

The magician looked at him and said, "You know what, I'm going to turn you back into a mouse. Although you have the body of a tiger, you have the courage of a mouse, and I can't change that by altering your form."

With that, the magician turned the tiger back into a mouse.

There are a couple lessons to take away from this. First of all, leaders show courage. It takes a strong will to do things that others are unwilling to do. In addition, it takes a special kind of individual to encourage others to do what others are unwilling to do.

You can bet the world's most influential leaders do not approach any obstacle, struggle, or mission with the heart of a mouse. To be a true leader, your heart, will, passion, and determination have to the size of a tiger's. Leadership starts with courage.

The second lesson is the fact that it isn't always the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. The tiger, despite a size disadvantage to the elephant, had the opportunity to stand up to his fear instead of becoming it, thus growing as who he was and enhancing his confidence. Instead, he took the path of least resistance and became what he feared, thus putting him right back where he started...as a mouse.

Despite your past and all the things you can't change, what will you do to separate yourself and "run with the big dogs?" Will you have the tiger's heart or the mouse's?

Separating yourself from the herd and becoming a leader takes heart and dedication. "Good enough" isn't enough. If what you have is "good enough," then you've officially stopped growing. Never stop looking for ways to improve, and never stop developing the heart of a tiger.

"When you're green, you're growing. When you're ripe, you rot." --- Ray Kroc

Chasing Down Friends, Family, and Strangers Does NOT Make You a Business Owner!

The following is a story about my first brush with Network Marketing:

Several years ago, I stopped by a local Best Buy to pick up a couple DVDs after work. When I exited the store, a guy who I'd never met came running up to me and started a conversation as if we were old pals. It was basic small talk, and I was curious as to why this guy had decided it was prudent to chat with me about the weather.

Still, I was cordial, and as the small talk began to grow stale, he launched into a diatribe about this "fantastic opportunity" he had available and how "so many people were getting involved" and I could "make boatloads of money working part-time from my house."

I was taken back by what he was telling me, so I asked a couple questions. The answers revealed that he was offering me an opportunity in a home-based, Multi-Level Marketing company. And at that point in time, I had no idea what Multi-Level Marketing, or MLM, even was
.
My next question resulted in the greatest answer I think I've ever received: "Why me," I asked.

The reply: "Well, because you're dressed up in a shirt and tie and I think you would be perfect for this opportunity."

End story.

From that experience, I learned that a killer sense of style doesn't just make you popular with the ladies, but it also gets you verbally attacked in a Best Buy parking lot.

Needless to say, I did not join that gentleman's opportunity. But fast-forward several years, and I did get involved with a different opportunity and learned first-hand how frustrating that gentleman's plight must have been. Chances are, he was just doing what he was told...just like I did. TALK TO EVERYBODY! TELL THEM THEY'D BE FOOLISH NOT TO JOIN YOUR OPPORTUNITY! THIS COMPANY IS REVOLUTIONARY! CASH CASH CASH, MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!

I have news for you that I found out first-hand through struggle and wheel-spinning: NONE OF THAT MATTERS!

Despite that experience, I ended up doing exactly what that guy did because that's what I was told to do. I talked to family, I talked to friends, I talked to strangers, and in return, I got a big pile of nothing.

I later discovered the truth: People do not join an opportunity because you "convince them to." They don't join because they think the product is revolutionary and the compensation plan is out of this world. And, believe it or not, they don't join because you think they look nice in a shirt and tie.

They join because it makes sense to them.

Think about it: When was the last time you bought something from a fanatical salesperson who chased you down and did nothing but spout off flashy buzz lines while taking no time at all to discover what your true needs were? Starting a business is a big decision, and most big decisions in your life were not made while standing in the middle of the food court at the mall, when all you were trying to do was get to American Eagle for a new pair of boot-cut jeans.

If you want to truly make an impact on your prospects, don't even talk about your business. Forget the compensation plan. Forget the product. Forget it all. Because it all means nothing if you don't have one thing:

Trust.

Looking back on my story, do you think I trusted the guy in the Best Buy parking lot? You'd probably think the answer is no, but truthfully, how could I determine whether I trusted him or not? All he did was talk about the rain clouds, then proceed to "pitch" me because of my shirt-and-tie combo. He had no idea what my motivations were or what sort of goals I had set for myself. Maybe I already had a business. He would've never known.

What he did was completely untargeted, and if you are spending your time chasing down your friends, family, and strangers in front of the Orange Julius stand at the mall, your business-building efforts are completely untargeted as well.

As a business owner, your primary objective is to draw prospects to you. And the way you do that is to provide them with value. Establish trust, establish a relationship, discover what's right for them instead of you, and you'll immediately transform yourself into a leader within your niche.

FLASHBACK: Entrepreneurial Secrets I Learned When I Was 14 That Hold True Today

I've been an entrepreneur since I was 14 years old. My first business launched when I managed to parlay my favorite hobby, sports card collecting, into an enterprise that allowed me to expand my own personal collection of cards and generate extra income at the same time.

Back then, sports card collecting was at its pinnacle in popularity. People were buying, selling, and trading cards and other sports collectibles every day, and earning a nice chunk of change while doing it. It was the ultimate example of mixing business with pleasure, as most of the people selling their wares were looking to increase the value of their own collections as well.

A couple friends and I decided we would do exactly what the "big guys" were doing. It was relatively cheap to rent a couple of tables at a local card show, place price tags on the cards we wanted to sell, and count our cash at the end of the day. After all, we positioned ourselves smack dab in the middle of a buyer's market.

I never really thought about profit. In fact, the gentleman who owned the card shop down the street from my house probably loved the fact that when the mall closed one Sunday, I was talking about how I profited 50 bucks for the day. Why? Because he knew my profit would soon be in his pocket.

And that's exactly what happened. After school the next day, I rode my bike to his shop and spent the whole wad on more "inventory."

Looking back, running that "business" was a lot of fun. I met some great people, developed some elementary business and negotiation skills, grasped selling an in-demand product at market value, and learned to operate a business at a profit, albeit a tiny one that quickly burnt a hole in my pocket.

Sadly, as I grew up, my love of sports cards declined, as I'm sure it did with a lot of kids my age. My favorite hobby was replaced by girls, my driver's license, parties, and a part-time job. I didn't light the world on fire, but I gained a very early understanding of how to run a successful business.

First, I had to establish trust. I wasn't just dealing with kids...I was dealing with adults as well. So why would they hand their money over to a 14-year old kid? Simple. Because I talked to them. We mostly talked about cards, but we immediately had a common interest. I got to know them. I learned about what they liked. I didn't try to show them something they weren't interested in. I never realized I was doing it, but I developed a bond which allowed my customer to see that I wanted to deliver them what they were looking for.

Next, I had to have passion for what I was presenting. This was easy. Why? Because I believed 100% in what I was offering! I was a kid who spent years building a collection of cards. You'd better believe I felt strongly about what I had invested so much time, energy, and money into. As long as I had what my customer was looking for, I was able to passionately provide them with the product they were looking for.

Finally, I had to let my customers decide for themselves. This was a little trickier. I was young and knew I needed money so I could buy more cards. At the same time, I wasn't trying to "hard-sell" anyone into buying my product...even if I had no idea what a "hard sell" was. I had to be willing to bend, compromise, and make the deal work out for both sides. In the end, some deals worked out and some did not. But no one left my table feeling ripped-off. That was very important to me.

In business today, trust, passion, and the ability to "present" instead of "sell" are cornerstones. Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg, but you can build a solid foundation for your business practices based on these three elements. Trust is a necessity which can be gained by providing value, and speaking with passion about your cause automatically shows the belief you have.

It's so simple, a 14-year old figured it out.

Failures: Why We Hold on to Them Like Vintage Baseball Cards

The Leadership Blitz
October 8th, 2009

When you were in school, did you ever receive a failing grade on a quiz or paper?

For many people, I know the answer to that question is no. There were a lot of individuals who knew their responsibilities and put their school work first. Even if they waited until the last minute, somehow their finished product always resulted in an 'A.' My sister was a prime example of this and it used to frustrate the hell out of me! Looking back, I'm proud of her for what she's accomplished. But when we were growing up, it was infuriating.

For a great number of us, good grades did not come naturally. I'll be the first to raise my hand and say I suffered through my fair share of failing grades. I was never proud of it, but I always brushed it off and knew I could recover by doing well on the next test, or the next report.

And that's what I did. I always passed, I just chose to work hard all at once instead of a little each assignment. Why I put this sort of pressure on myself, I'll never know. But it certainly allowed a lot more free time for me to play football and basketball with my friends after school. I prided myself on my development of "street smarts." And while I'll defend to the death the importance of street smarts, you can't write that skill on a college resume next to a transcript full of 'Fs' and hope to get accepted.

I am happy to say I managed to transform my ways once I reached college and realized what was truly important. Basically, there was a world of opportunity and a large sum of money that would be flushed down the toilet if I didn't graduate. That was a pretty good motivator.

Nevertheless, as I sat down today, I was thinking about how easy it used to be to just push a low or failing grade off to the side and tell myself, "You'll do better the next time." But as I grew up, I managed to hold onto failures like they were rare collectibles.

So, here's the million dollar question of the day: What changes from the time we are kids to the time we become adults that disables us from letting go of failed attempts?

It's a mysterious anomaly. As adults, we tend to use failure as an excuse to never do something like that again. An investment gone wrong, a business venture gone array, or an expensive purchase of something we really didn't need instead of using that money to alleviate some debt.

These mistakes seem to put us in a little safety cocoon and we refuse to do what we did when we were kids: Try harder the next time. Because you failed at something along the way does not make you a failure overall. It just means you gained some experience that can be used to succeed the next time.

I can honestly say, when I stopped letting failures dictate my action and began treating them as experience, my ability to become more innovative in my business efforts became much more clear.

Today, let go of past failures. Do not let the negatives of the past dictate the course you put your life on going forward. Think back to a time when a failure wasn't the end of the world, simply an opportunity to get better the next time.

The Entrepreneur's Stimulus Package: Strengthen Your Strongest Muscle

These days, all the talk is stimulus packages and bailouts and injections of funds to get the economy back on track. The sad truth is that most people have buried themselves so far in debt, a stimulus check will be used to relinquish the stranglehold that debt has created, even if it's just a tiny fraction of the total amount.

But let's put that on the backburner for a moment. Say you're a business owner. Or, say you've got some entrepreneurial tendencies and you're looking for a home-based business opportunity to sink your teeth into. There's no question that the network marketing industry is lucrative and can give you a clear-cut path to your goals. Or, it can chew you up and spit you out. It's all a matter of how you attack it.

What will stimulate you to succeed with your business? What will be the key motivator that makes you pour effort into building your business?

The most common, and WRONG answer is money. Sure, we all want money and, yes please, keep it coming. But money should never be your #1 reason for starting and building a business. Yes, money is great, but it's nothing more than ink on paper.

To truly figure out what will stimulate and motivate you, you have to dig deep, deep into your mind, and determine what that money will be used for. What sort of goals are you looking to accomplish? Pay off debt? Buy a house? Buy a car? Give back to your community? Ensure your children are able to go to college?

Whatever it is, it's never about money. It's about what the money can do for you. This is your Reason Why. And without a reason why, you're doomed from the start.

Now that we've cleared that up, it's time to uncover the ultimate stimulus package for your business ventures. If you're seeking a network marketing opportunity, or you're involved with a company and you're not getting the results you want, I'm here to tell you this: your success has nothing to do with your company, your product, your compensation plan, or any of the other fancy, flashy taglines that are designed to get you to sign the dotted line.

As an entrepreneur, the ultimate stimulus package lays in your mind and what you do to become a successful business owner. Will you develop the mindset that allows you to stop thinking like an 'employee,' where you work long, ridiculous hours to make someone else wealthy, and start thinking like an 'entrepreneur,' where you focus your skill sets towards building your own fortune and writing your own success story?

No product, no company, and no compensation plan will help you reach that goal if your mindset does not go through this shift. You can try...but expect the same result you get while driving a rear-wheel drive car across a sheet of ice: Spinning wheels.

If you want to give yourself the ultimate stimulus package and start running a successful network marketing business, start expanding your education. Start taking action and applying the lessons you learn. Don't allow yourself to fall into a trap where you're waiting for the answer to find you. Get out there, obtain the knowledge, and find the answer for yourself!

A Bailout Package from the Traditional Life You Despise

It's time for a wake-up call.

We are living in rough and unpredictable times. The economy is down, unemployment is up, and the evening news hasn't led with a positive story in about 672 broadcasts. And what's worse...the ease of making a career change is slowly declining by the hour.

Have you found yourself clinging to what you currently have? Your job, your savings, your investments. Are you telling yourself that you're going to "stay the course" until "things improve?"

We live in a world that champions the concept of change, yet the players in that concept are the embodiment of the exact opposite. Change involves risk, and if you are prohibiting yourself from
taking any risks, how can you expect things to change? The ultimate Catch 22.

Well, today is the day you stand up and say, "NO MORE!"

How many opportunities have you missed out on because you were waiting for everything to be "perfect?" Most likely, more than you want to admit. I'll be the first person to admit there were so many things I could've taken advantage of, but I was content living in my tiny little comfort zone, where all things remained the same. I finally realized that what I already had just wasn't good enough, and unless I did some demolition on the walls of my comfort zone, I'd never be able to remodel my life.

Are you sitting around waiting for a bailout? And I'm not just referring to a goverment stimulus check. I'm talking about a 'bailout' in any form. A promotion or raise at work, a shift in the market that drives your stocks up, a bump in your company's 401(k) match percentage. Whatever it may be...are you standing idly by waiting for these things to happen?

If so, you could be letting one golden opportunity after another pass you by. ESPECIALLY if you're someone who hates your job, but is afraid to make a change out of fear that nothing else will ever come along.

It's time to embrace change. More so, it's time to take action and make change happen. Waiting for it to come to you gift-wrapped will lead to more of what you already have. And if you despise what you already have, what's the point?

The fact is, there is no 'recession' on the World Wide Web. What is on the World Wide Web is opportunity. But, and that's a big but, the opportunity comes with sacrifice, determination, and a willingness to change.

The ability to work from home, answer to yourself, set your own schedule, and spend time with the ones you love is all here...if you're willing to do what it takes to make it happen.

How's that for a bailout package?
