NEVER Accept the Unacceptable
The Leadership Blitz
October 22nd, 2009
Everyone has a destiny in life. All of us were put on this earth to do something extraordinary.
The question is...are you willing to accept your mission?
A major disconnect people have with their destiny is the fact that they wait for it to happen without doing what it takes to make it happen. They set a certain standard in their life and stay within the means that allow them to reach that standard. Nothing more...sometimes less.
They're not willing to go above and beyond to reach their peak. They sell themselves short. They live life accepting results below their standards because those results offer little to no resistance.
In other words, they accept the unacceptable.
The picture above is Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby hoisting the Stanley Cup after he and his team overcame injury, struggle, and adversity to win hockey's ultimate prize. What most people forget (except for us die-hard Pens fans) is that the Penguins were nearly out of opportunities to even make the playoffs last season.
As of February 14th, 2009, the Pens were on the outside looking in, needing alot to happen in order for them to compete in the playoffs. Mainly, a winning streak most thought was unattainable. A lesser team who accepted defeat would've faded into the night. But the Penguins persevered and deemed it unacceptable to be anything other than extraordinary.
They came together as a team, they set a goal, they decided failure was an unacceptable option, and they let nothing stand in the way of the accomplishment of their mission.
The media wrote them off, saying there was no way the Penguins could climb out of the hole they had dug themselves into. Other teams considered them stepping stones on their way to the playoffs.
Crosby and the Pens ignored it all.
The result? The chance to skate with Lord Stanley's Cup and the privilege of calling themselves "champions."
In your life and your business, are you willing to accept defeat? Have you adopted failure as an acceptable circumstance? Only a crazy person would say yes, but often times the true meaning of why you do what you do gets lost in failed marketing attempts, a prospect who disappears, a laundry list of tasks that seem mundane and worthless, or anything else that creates a new obstacle to overcome.
It's important to keep your eye on the ball and always remember why you do what you do. Even the most mundane of tasks is simply a stepping stone towards the ultimate prize. The most difficult of obstacles will only make you a better person for having overcome them.
With everything you do, remember this: the unacceptable is not reality until you allow it to be so. There's no written rule that says you need to accept any result you do not deem appropriate. Utilize every strength you have to create a reality jam-packed with acceptable circumstances.
Overcome the adversity, ignore the naysayers, never accept the unacceptable, and give yourself the opportunity to earn your own personal "Stanley Cup."
