The Four Outs: Which One Are You?!

It takes a specific mindset and strong determination to overcome a lot of negativity that tends to get slung your way when you start your own business.

It's not always easy to be told building your own personal empire "is OK if it works" or to "forget all that bullsh#t" and do something more meaningful.

To no one's fault, there's a high level of pre-programming that pushes you down a conventional path. Those who speak ill of your efforts do so from having a traditional thought process drilled into their heads for years and years. Chances are, many of them may not share the same desire to shift their mindset and venture down a less-traveled path the way you have. Simply put, they are preaching what they practice.

And while their opinion is to be respected, it does not need to be adopted.

Conventional life goes something like this: you, me, and just about everyone else were told to go to school, get good grades so you can get into a good college, then get good grades in college so you can get a safe, secure job with decent pay and benefits.

However, very few people were told to work for themselves, start their own business when they graduated college, or jump on the World Wide Web and join the ranks of people who are "making it" online.

Yet, the number of people staking their claim and solidifying their reputation on the Internet is growing by the day. This movement has been pioneered by a group of people who threw caution at the wind, bucked all the odds, and decided to forge ahead in the face of a brutal sh*tstorm of negativity and tongue-in-cheek remarks.

Success at this "game" of network marketing does not come overnight and there are a plethora of entrepreneurs who will gladly line up to show you the battle scars to prove it. It takes time, effort, dedication, heart, soul, a shattering of boundaries and comfort zones, sacrifice, and a willingness to do something you've never done to get something you've never had.

But, as industry legend Mike Dillard once said, "Success is worth the sacrifice."

When thinking about the paradigm shift I, as well as countless others, have gone through, it got me thinking about a lesson I learned about mindset and dedication to goals that involves everyone. No matter where you're at in life and business, you fall into one of these categories.

It's called "The Four Outs" and they are as follows:

1) The "Cop-Outs" - These are the ones who have no goals and no intention of making any goals. They're content with their safe zone, have no ambition to go forward, and run the risk of moving backwards due to poor, or no, planning for the future.

2) The "Hold-Outs" - These folks set goals but don't do any of the work that's necessary to reach them. Results are born from action and I'd love to meet someone who feels they can dispute that. The lack of effort put towards accomplishing your goals often lays in the goals themselves. Do you believe in them strongly enough to allow them to consume you and stop at nothing to see their attainment? Or is it easy to put them on the back-burner for something that's not as great, but easier to attain?

3) The "Drop-Outs" - These are the ones who are right on the verge of greatness but walk away from their cause before they complete it. They have their goals set, they start working towards accomplishing them, but they stop before the game is over. They allow the frustrations and obstacles to cloud their ability to get the job done, thus they sell themselves short and never fully realize the potential they're capable of.

4) The "All-Outs" - These individuals constantly have their eye on the prize and will stop at nothing to achieve success. They set goals, commit to them, then put themselves through the process of achieving them. They are fully aware of the work that's involved and don't expect immediate results from little to no effort. They have chosen their path (the path of unconventional thinking...the path opposite of the one that got them into past situations of debt, discomfort, lack of security, etc.) and will let no obstacle stand in their way.

So...which "Out" are you?

Do you want to achieve your goals? Then it's crucial to be an "all-out." Going "all-out" for your mission is the only way to play the game! The greatest athletes of all time played their game all-out and left everything on the field of competition to reach their pinnacle.

And, so did the greatest leaders of all time. They believed in their mission so strongly, going all-out was the only way they could get to the top.

The ability to go all-out exists in you no matter what you want to accomplish. The key is creating goals big enough and developing a mindset strong enough that you're inspired to go to work each and every day to see that the job's done.

When this is accomplished, you'll never hit a glass ceiling again.

Having Trouble Getting Recognized? Here's the Reason...

Have you found yourself wondering why you aren't getting more recognition in your network marketing opportunity? Why hasn't anyone noticed the efforts you've poured into your enterprise?

As many venture into the home business industry, they normally base their decision for joining on all the positives that are presented to them, and nothing else. This, in my opinion, is why the attrition rate in MLM models is so high.

A pretty picture is painted that's jam-packed with lucrative incomes, part-time work schedules, results born from little to no effort, revolutionary compensation plans, and the ability to reach a top-level leadership position that leads to recognition and attention.

But the other side of the business...the rejections, the learning curves, and the actual WORK that's involved, are conveniently left out of the equation.

You don't sell a car by showcasing the recalls, but don't you think the buyer should know about them? Of course they should. Therefore, as an effective leader, you should be sharing all aspects of your business opportunity in the most honest and up-front of ways. This builds trust, allows your prospect to make a well-informed decision, and doesn't fill their head with false hope.

Unfortunately, there's too much of that in network marketing today.

It's no wonder people seek attention and recognition without doing anything to get it.

By nature, humans crave the spotlight. Thus, their creativity is fueled by recognition, even if it's at the smallest of levels. It feels great for someone to notice something you've done. But in order for that to happen, you have to actually DO SOMETHING. There's simply no other way around it.

You want to be recognized? You need to call your leaders and show them you accomplished all the daily goals you set for yourself. Don't call them and complain about lack of time or things not going your way. No leader wants to hear that, and chances are, you're not receiving any recognition from them because you're projecting too much "negative energy."

Leaders gravitate to other leaders and do not waste their time listening to complaints. Myself and the leaders I associate with will do everything in our power to help someone who's willing to learn from their mistakes and overcome past failures. But most leaders do not have enough hours in their day to listen to someone blame anything and everything but themselves for a lack of results.

You want to be recognized? Go out there and do something good and positive that will lead to results. The results don't have to be instant, but they need to be a step in that direction.

This is all about mindset and flipping the way you're used to thinking. The vast majority of people find it much easier to complain about a problem instead of finding a solution. Why? Because the solution is outside their comfort zone.

To be an effective leader, you have to be willing to push the boundaries of your comfort zone every single day. And I promise you, if you do that, you'll start achieving better results.

And those results will ultimately lead to the recognition you've earned.

"Great Moments Are Born From Great Opportunity"

There's no better feeling than accomplishing something when the odds are stacked against you. There isn't a person alive who hasn't heard the voices of doubt when it comes to achieving something so astronomical, only a fool would believe it was possible.

Overcoming adversity and failure makes for a great success story, and seizing the opportunities you have available lead to who you are what you can become.

If you're not happy with your current income, your job, your overall lot in life, anything...SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY AND CHANGE IT!

It all starts with YOU and how willing you are to take on new challenges, venture outside of your comfort zone, and take hold of every advantage you deserve!

When backed against a wall and faced with a challenge, what will you do?

Will you let all the naysayers who have no belief in you dictate the history you make?

Or will you summon all the belief you have in yourself, ignore all outside forces who attempt to pull you down, fight back and take on the challenge with all your might?

I am a tremendous hockey fan, and no story from the ice is more inspirational than the inconceivable accomplishment by the 1980 United States Olympic Hockey Team, as documented in the 2004 movie "Miracle." Can you imagine how different the history books would look had the US squad let the naysayers dictate their actions?

This video is Coach Herb Brooks' famous pre-game speech just prior to the United States shocking the world and beating the Soviets en route to the Gold Medal. Extremely inspirational!

Fatherhood: Take One

It's been said the New Year offers the opportunity for improvement, fresh starts, change, and new beginnings.

The beginning of this year has brought about all that and so much more for my wife and I.

On Thursday, January 7th, 2010, a little miracle was delivered to us in the form of our first beautiful, healthy baby girl.

Mackenna Elaine came into this world at 9:41pm, tipping the scales at 10 lbs. even...yes, Jen gave birth to a toddler :), and 22 1/2 inches long.

And every bit of her changed our lives forever.

Before I go any further, I would be doing my wife and any other woman who's given birth in their life a grave injustice if I did not acknowledge how strong each and every one of you are for putting your bodies through hell to produce life. I've always loved and respected Jen, but that respect was elevated to an indescribable level after coaching her through Mackenna's birth. She was, for lack of a better term, an absolute ROCK STAR!

Amidst all the horror stories and dramatizations that television and movies produce about the birthing process, I honestly didn't know what to expect. But Jen handled her responsibility so strongly, keeping her focus on the ultimate prize so perfectly, she instantly became my hero.

Jen, if you're reading this, you continue to amaze me more and more every day. Mackenna is the luckiest baby in the world to have you as her mother.

Words cannot explain the feeling of being there in that moment and, despite having a degree in writing, I don't feel my credentials can properly capture the range of emotions that ran through my head when Mackenna decided to come out and play for the first time.

You know it's coming for nine solid months and you do everything to prepare yourself for what's about to transpire. I had many, many conversations with myself in an attempt to psyche myself up for the inevitable, but I don't think the monumental change and indefinable meaning behind that change really hit me until she was born.

I made peace with the fact that I'd be changing diapers and adjusting to a brand new sleep schedule.

I knew the meaning behind the term "social life" was about to be redefined as well.

But those changes are easy to cope with. It's part of becoming a responsible parent. The change that overwhelmed me the most, within a matter of seconds from the time she joined us, was the fact that there was this tiny, little human being that would be looking to me for friendship, love, lessons in life, guidance, leadership, fatherly advice, and so much more each and every day going forward.

I can tell you that no real mental pep talk can prepare you for something like that. It's just an instinct that kicks in and consumes you all at once, with no warning.

The second I looked into those glowing blue eyes for the first time, I was hooked. I knew all my efforts, all my passion for leadership and training and personal development and helping others create a lifestyle they design and enjoy, was all for her.

There is no replacing the feeling of the first time your child grabs hold of your finger with their tiny little hand. Or inadvertantly flashes you a little smile. Or the first time you hold them in your arms and calm them when they cry.

Mackenna is safely home from the hospital and the real fun has begun. Fortunately, we've been blessed with a very well-behaved baby up to this point. She sleeps when she's supposed to sleep, she eats when she's supposed to eat, and she continues to make mommy and daddy proud with every little thing she does.

How long will she stick to this schedule and let us get our sleep? There's no telling. I'm guessing not very long. But what the future holds is certainly an exciting mystery!

A personal mentor of mine, John Jackson, ends each of his morning Leadership calls with the following quote: "Do something for someone today, in the knowing they'll never be able to repay you."

I've always been a strong advocate of this quote with each and every person I've ever managed, mentored, trained, or even spoken to. Carrying out a good action and helping someone without expecting something in return is a very gratifying feeling and ultimately leads to long-term success.

And as I begin my adventure into fatherhood, I find myself doing extra 'something's' for a little special someone each and every minute.

And I wouldn't trade it for anything.

How To Get 5-10 People To Contact You About Your Business Every Day

It's not uncommon to be involved with a network marketing, or MLM opportunity and not feel a certain level of frustration. There's a lot of rejection, a steep learning curve, and a feeling that deep down, you'll be spinning your wheels forever.

Most brand new networkers fail and leave the industry before they reach the level of success they were promised when they first became a distributor, some of which were right next to achieving their goals but let exterior forces influence their decision to quit. In fact, a startling fact has surfaced that states 97% of people fail at MLM and never achieve full-time income.

That's a huge number, but it opens up a small window for you to become one of the 3% to make a name for yourself in this industry. And how is that accomplished? Simply by lessening the steepness of your learning curve by thinking like an entrepreneur and educating yourself on how to be successful.

Network Marketing can be frustrating if you practice a lot of the outdated, old-school methods that USED to be effective. In network marketing's hay-day, it was standard practice to talk to everybody you knew, cold-call leads, hold parties at your home and/or at hotels, and basically work your ass off over a three, four, five, or even longer time period to build a large downline and strong residual income.

Today, it's a different ball game. There are home business options that aren't built on an MLM model. The Internet has changed the way business is done, and the information people seek about network marketing opportunities no longer comes to them via sit-downs in kitchens or getting chased down by someone at the mall.

I joined my first opportunity because my best friend presented the idea to me and it made sense. Once I signed up, I attended a hotel meeting that our group was holding, mainly to gather more information for my own benefit and see how these meetings were conducted. I was shocked to see that, after an hour presentation on ONLY the good side of the business, people had an application thrown in front of them and were forced to make an on-the-spot, impulse-based decision.

People don't want to be bugged, bothered, or sold on anything. If they decide to make a purchase or join an opportunity, they want it to be their decision. As well it should be. Therefore, it's your duty as a savvy network marketing leader to put your salesman hat away and simply provide people the information they look for.

You might be asking, "Well, if I do that, Jason, how will I ever grow my business? How will people know about it?" This is a fair question and the answer most likely contradicts the training and lessons your upline has given you. That's unless your upline has shifted with the times and teaches new-age prospecting and recruiting.

Ask yourself the following question: How different would your business be if 5-10 people contacted you every single day, credit cards in-hand, ready to join your opportunity?

My guess is things would change dramatically for you!

See, there's an element to building a successful home-based business that often goes overlooked in the face of products, ground-floor opportunities, and over-exaggerated, "never-before-seen" compensation plans. That element is the Law of Attraction, and it's something I wish I would've been taught the second I joined my first opportunity.

When the smoke clears, product and opportunity don't matter. People join people, and those who present themselves as attractive leaders create a world of endless possibilities, where chasing down strangers at the mall, putting fliers on the windshields of cars in sub-zero temperatures, and talking to everyone within arm's reach are a thing of the past.

No book on the market today better teaches, dissects, and shows you how to implement the Law of Attraction than Mike Dillard's Magnetic Sponsoring. This course changed the way myself and thousands of other entrepreneurs have built their business and continues to be the industry standard when it comes to marketing, prospecting, recruiting, and finding financial freedom in the network marketing industry.

Mike Dillard is an authority in the network marketing/Internet Marketing arena and his methods have turned the industry on its ear. Mike himself was a waiter at P.F. Chang's who implemented the Law of Attraction and built the 2nd largest downline in his primary opportunity.

Mike reveals all and tells you exactly what you need to hear in his game-changing, mindset-shifting Magnetic Sponsoring course.

If I had to pick one manual that I wish someone would've shown me the day I joined my first network marketing opportunity, I'd say Magnetic Sponsoring without giving it a thought.

Click Here for a full breakdown of Magnetic Sponsoring.

A Kick-Ass, Focused Definition on Leadership

Leadership takes on many different forms and comes with many different definitions. How it's interpreted, accepted, understood, and utilized is all in the eye of the beholder.

Today I heard a great definition for leadership that I immediately adopted for all my actions going forward. It came from the great John Jackson, a mentor to me and thousands of other entrepreneurs. I've mentioned John several times on this blog before and don't start my day without listening to his daily leadership calls.

Today's leadership definition is simply this: Focused Action in the Direction of a Worthy Purpose.

This definition is a reminder that we all need to be bigger than the problems that stare us in the face on a daily basis. As leaders, we have numerous people counting on us for guidance, advice, and insight. Constantly shining the spotlight on problems instead of developing solutions can hinder our leadership qualities.

In addition, the goals we set for ourselves must be far greater than the obstacles that stand in the way of their accomplishment.

A tremendous obstacle for many people is debt. On the surface, it would appear the fundamental reason for generating more wealth would be to get out of debt. While alleviating debt is very important, it's merely one of the stepping stones en route to a much more vast and greater prize.

At least it should be.

Ask yourself what your worthy purpose is. A debt-free life is certainly a great accomplishment, but isn't the possibility of positioning yourself to spend more time with your family more important? Especially if eliminating debt from your life allowed you to do just that.

Or what if you love to travel and reliquishing the stranglehold debt has on you would create the opportunity to explore the globe?!

The point is this. Yes, debt, or any other obstacle life throws in front of you, may be staring you in the face every single day. And yes, you'd like nothing more than to kick it in the gut and get it out of your life forever.

But if your goals are set on higher achievements, you're going to wrestle that gorilla on your back to the ground anyway while creating the life you've always wanted for yourself.

It's all about wanting to be bigger and better, mentally envisioning being bigger and better, then implementing the proper action steps to become bigger and better.

At the end of the day, money is just ink on paper. But the lifestyle that comes along with money is the ultimate prize that all leaders strive for.

When you set goals for yourself, remember these three elements:

1) Think BIG! - Look past the problems in your life TODAY and focus on what you want your life to be TOMORROW
2) Dream BIG! - With action, your dreams can become reality. Mentally create that world for yourself and stop at nothing to get it
3) Take BIG Action! - FOCUSED action on what your future will hold if you go to work and write your own success story!

Did You Make New Years "Resolutions" or "REVOLUTIONS?!"

Resolution [res-uh-loo-shuh n] - noun: a resolve or determination; to make a firm resolution to do something; the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.

Revolution [rev-uh-loo-shuh n] - noun: a sudden, complete, or marked change in something

It's crazy how much of a difference one letter makes.

The turn of a new year and new decade has came and gone, and most people have returned to their every day lives. The holiday decorations are down, and the New Year's party is nothing more than a memory.

The new year always brings about the opportunity to make changes, and most people use January 1st to recover from the night before, as well as think of areas of their life in which they can improve. But come February, the majority of those hopes for change have long been forgotten.

The problem with a resolution, as indicated in the definition above, is the fact that it's merely thought. Thoughts can be great motivators for a better today and brighter tomorrow, but cease to become anything more than that until they're transformed into action.

I've talked to several people in my life who fall into the category of "all smoke and no fire." This translates to a lot of talk, but no action to back up their words. They want big things, they want fancy cars, they feel they deserve better than what they currently have. But ask them what they've done to move towards those goals and they stare at your blankly.

If you have a problem with self-accountability or entitlement, chances are you've:

A) Never truly stuck to and accomplished a New Years resolution
B) Never truly gotten what you've wanted out of life

Today, let's be bold and throw "resolutions" out the window. If you've already made a list of the things you want to accomplish this year, great. If you haven't, what are you waiting for?
But as of this very moment, your resolutions will now be known as "REVOLUTIONS" (just cross out the first 's' and replace it with a 'v' if you physically made a list).

If you refer back to the definitions at the top, "revolutions" are all about change through action. Your resolutions, whether they're as simple as reading five more pages of an informative book a day or as life-altering as quitting smoking or getting into better shape, need to be viewed from the standpoint that if they're accomplished, they're REVOLUTIONARY!

There's no reason your goals shouldn't mean that much to you.

If you look at the Industrial and Cultural Revolutions in our history books, they are categorized as "revolutions" because they mark a distinct, sudden, and complete change in the fabric of society going forward.

Your goals are no different. Accomplishing your "revolutions" should mark a distinct, sudden, and complete change in YOU!

And if they don't, you're only kidding yourself, and 2010 will be a carbon copy of every year you've had before it.

Be bold in 2010. Start your own revolution and finally get everything you've always wanted out of life! Take action and make it happen!
